about.

So Blue is a progressive folk duo that blends sensitive instrumentals with evocative lyricism. With earthy vocals, dynamic guitar, and rich string bass, the group creates timeless songs that speak to our shared humanity – the good and the bad. The band, consisting of Devon Gardner on vocals/guitar and Adam Gurczak on double bass, is releasing its debut EP, In Water and Waves, in Spring 2024. A five-track melancholic folk EP, In Water and Waves, features five original songs, telling stories about love, loss, and (as many can relate to) shitty roommates. Ambient bowed string bass paired with poignant guitar serve as the bedrock on the album, over which lyrics tell personal and intimate stories. Inspired by the likes of Watchhouse, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Courtney Marie Andrews, their music harkens to the nature-inspired roots of Americana blended with classical and contemporary songs, sounds, and stories.

Originally having met in the sun-soaked Arizona desert, bandleaders Devon Gardner and Adam Gurczak now call the bustling streets of Boston home. Whether playing as a duo or in compliments of three or four with other artists, So Blue offers songs of solace, inviting you to find beauty in the wilds.

Grow Away

February 2023

  • I want to go up to the sky and become a cloud

and travel for miles to the place where I was born

When I get there, I'll fall like the rain

and she'll stay forever on my brain

I want to see the sun shine on down

in a land where peace prospers town to town

I'll hear the burdens that they carry

and they'll stay forever on my brain

As a cloud, I'll see the oceans wide

But still turn to my home that war washed with time

All the children and the workers will dance with open arms

to the rhythm of my body falling down

Let me fall like the rain

Let me fall like the rain

Let me fall like the rain

Please let me fall like the rain

I want to go up to the sky and become a cloud

and travel for miles to the place where I was born

When I get there, I'll fall like the rain

and she'll stay forever on my brain

They’ll stay forever on my brain

Please stay forever on my brain

  • Plant your seeds for evergreens

    in that long tall grass

Where the birds, they chirp and roam

Your green thumb works on anyone

    except the ones who don't

    grow your way

You try to grow every seed that you find

Sometimes your seeds all wilt out and die

Plant me right here where your green bushes lie

    I’ll grow your way

    The dirt and the grime

    Wash and decline

As the rain washed my leaves

But slowly and surely, the sun’s gone on down

and you leave me out here to dry

You try to grow every seed that you find

Sometimes your seeds all wilt out and die

You planted me here where I soon would try

    to grow away

All my words have left this tiny old stem that’s dry

As I sing to the ground I realize my time is now

My seeds will go with the wind who howls at night

‘cause I'll never rue the days that I did grow

You try to grow every seed that you find

Each time your seeds all wilt out and die

You planted me here where I soon would dry

    and blow away
